In Japanese, izumi means “spring” or “fountain”. The city Izumi is located in Kagoshima Prefecture and is the point in which the Komenotsu River flows into the sea, which is represented in its kanji, 出 水, which means “exit” and “water”. It is famous for its crane migratory grounds and its four century year old samurai residences from the Satsuma domain. Izumi is where founder Kurt Bellon’s mother’s family is from and currently resides.
In Saint Louis, Izumi springs forth October 2020 as popups in various locations. Its main focus will be on konbini food and culture showcased by Japanese sandos, snacks and drinks. Inspired by the well known Japanese fairy tale, Momotaro, or Peach Boy, Izumi seeks to share its gifts and make friends in order build a team to defeat demons and make the world a better place ❤
